cover of 日粵精華 (CD)

I’ve been noticing this new CD box set for a while at CD/DVD shops & finally my curiosity got the better of me & bought it today (was $130 in Mongkok, but $105 in Ma On Shan). Obviously the Japanese title does not make much sense to Japanese people… How should I say this, it’s pronounced ‘Ro-me-no(のwritten sideways?)-u-to to-ro-me-mo-to’ in mixture of hiragana & katakana… when I first glanced at the cover, I thought it said ゆめのうた トモロウと(夢の歌 灯ろうと), or more like ‘Dream songs, with lanterns’? ‘Enlightened Dream Songs?’or even ‘Dream songs, with tomorrow’?). Funny how mind instantly becomes dyslexic There’s only couple of typos in the Japanese titles (but really, they shouldn’t get that wrong!).

It’ll take a while to listen to all the songs in 3 CD set (especially I cannot listen to music while I translate), but my favourite so far is 每天愛你多一些 [真夏の果実] by Southern All Stars. There’s also songs by チャゲ＆飛鳥, 山口百恵 etc, so it’s definitely targeted, usually, to people older than me (probably my parents’ generation!). However, as I only spent my childhood, 80’s, in Japan, music of this era is more familiar to me than more ‘modern’ music It’s kinda strange though, when you’re fully expecting a female singer, then a male voice comes up! I’ll definitely get my parents to listen for fun next time I’m in Tokyo
