景徳鎮陶瓷 Chinese porcelain from Ywe Hua
We went to YweHua Chinese department store in Jordan looking for Birthday present for Margaret (we did find some nice things in the end – parcel on its way). The department store is huge, with lots of interesting things, so we had a good hour or so looking through things (I’ll be sure to go back there again for more look see!).
With my interest in antique ceramics, we were naturally drawn to the ceramics section & got a little trapped! There were few sales people obviously keen for sale & we were certainly interested in what was on offer. Everything was 50% off that day (how lucky we are!) & we were looking at beautiful porcelain pieces in the lighted display cabinet.
I’m still researching on the history behind these delicate pieces we’ve purchased. We have been told by the sales person that it’s from 江西省景徳鎮市(Jianxi Province, Jĭngdézhèn city), which is probably the most famous area of Chinese fine porcelain production. We’ve been told that ones we bought are last of the pieces of this artisan who’s retired, so none of the ones produced today are that delicate (we did see newer ones and she is quite right – they don’t look as thin & hand-painted artwork is not as nicely done). I’m just a bit afraid of displaying them (or handling them) as they’re so delicate… Will post photos once I get my nerves!
