SSP beads & fabrics shopping
SSP 深水埗 is full of beads shops which makes all beads lovers drool They’re definitely cheaper than even the online shops in Australia, so definitely worth having a look. Shops are scattered around south? of SSP MTR, in Yiu Chau 汝州街 and Ki Lung 基隆街 Streets, within the square area bordered by major [...]

SSP exploration
The day began with a simple shopping list, few bits of fabric missing from my unfinished quilt, few beads & bits for some new projects, and possibly few balls of wool… then I get emails from Mike to get him computer bits… also I almost walked to Mongkok exploring shops…. I ended up spending half [...]

Food shopping in SSP
SSP is full of snack & food shops to cater for the market crowd and residents, just like Mongkok. As well as the usual deep-fried intestines & all type snack shops, drinks shops etc, there are some traditional Chinese desserts shops. The one I went today is just outside the B2 exit of the MTR [...]

Lowu trip, 16 April 2010
Lowu is a town in Shenzhen, across the border from the New Territories in Hong Kong. You can catch the train (old KCR, now MTR) directly on Lowu line to the border crossing. It is a very popular day trip destination both for HK locals and tourists.
Today’s mission was a day trip, with an aim [...]

Fenton milk glass (hobnail pattern)
4 smallish Fenton milk glass pieces purchased from one seller, who’s based in Ohio US, where Fenton Art Glass Company is based (like 2h drive away actually). I thought what’s on offer probably is genuine & cheaper. She indeed has a wide range of Fenton glassware, normally sells for much more in Australia. Obviously a huge [...]

6 teacup duos c.1930~1950 (eBay purchases)
Oh dear… I think I need more display spaces in my phantom cupboard! (or better still, another bigger matching 1930’s art deco display cabinet to the one in my rented house – will be on the hunt at Antique dealers once I get back to A house!). Despite a large number of photos, there are [...]

Fire King, Anchor Hocking (continued)
As I said in my previous post, there seems not be a huge market for jadeite (jadite (US?)) Anchor Hocking Fire King pieces, at least in Australia anyway (more in US, where it originates). I’m still in search for jadeite cup & saucer duo, as well as the turquoise (robin’s egg blue), but in the [...]

more on manto-ware
I was quite unconvinced with a lack of information available on English websites (that’s language, not country-specific) on Manto-ware (or Mantoware, Manto ware?), so tried my darnedest to find information in Japanese (that’s both language and country-specific). Afterall, Manto-ware is made in Japan (according to the stamp)!!!
Few Australian people attempted the same searches in English [...]

eBay purchases 10 April 2010
Been on another eBay buying frenzy (one of those phase with 3 pages of items being ‘watched’ – it’ll pass soon ). These are my most recent purchases from the same seller (good for shaving off postage, which can be a bummer if only buying 1 or 2).
1st row left: A metal antique tea [...]

乾隆年製陶器 Qinglong porcelain (tea cups)
Saturday 31 October – Another visits to Sham Sui Po. Another ‘Antique’ porcelain purchased!
We bought a pair of hand-painted tea? sake? cups with gold gildng inside (matt, not glossy & gaudy). Beautiful detailed painting of 8 Chinese mythical characters (same for both). Very good condition, with barely visible hairline cracks near the bottom rim, which [...]
